SECTION – D: WRITING SKILL – 30 Marks

9. Writing – Do any TWO, one from each group (10×2=20)

Group A:

[A] Write a letter to your friend describing a visit to Sundarbans.

Ans:

Asansol, 05.09.2026

My dear Rohit,

I hope you are well by the grace of God. I am also well here. You will be very happy to know that last week I visited Sundarbans with my parents and elder brother. It was the most amazing and thrilling experience of my life and I want to share it with you.

We started from Canning by boat on 28th August early morning. The journey through Matla river and dense mangrove forest was wonderful. The forest is so silent and deep. We entered Sajnekhali Tiger Reserve. The guide told us many stories about Royal Bengal Tiger. Though we could not see a tiger directly, we saw fresh pug marks of tiger near the muddy bank, which thrilled us a lot. We also saw big crocodiles basking in sun, spotted deer, wild boars, monkeys and many kinds of colourful birds like kingfisher and herons.

We met honey collectors called ‘Mawalis’ and fishermen and heard about their risky life. We stayed one night at Sajnekhali Forest Bungalow inside the forest. At night the silence of forest and distant roar was very mysterious.

Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It protects us from cyclones and is home to great biodiversity. We must protect it from pollution and deforestation.

You must visit once with your family in winter vacation. It will be a great learning for our geography and life. I will show you photos when we meet.

Convey my regards to your parents.

Your loving friend,

Amit

Sub: Request for excursion to Sundarbans

Respected Sir,

I beg most respectfully to state that I am Amit Das, student of Class X, Section – A, Roll No. 15 and on behalf of all students of Class X, I wish to draw your kind attention to a request.

We, the students of Class X, are very interested to go on an educational excursion to Sundarbans during coming winter vacation, in December 2026. Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world, home to Royal Bengal Tiger and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is very much related to our Geography lesson – chapter on Forest and Biodiversity. Visiting there will give us practical knowledge about mangrove ecosystem, wildlife conservation and life of forest people.

About 40 students of our class are willing to join. We have talked to our Geography teacher Sri S. Mondal who has kindly agreed to guide us. The estimated cost will be around Rs. 2000 per student including bus, boat, food and forest permission. We are ready to bear it. We shall maintain full discipline.

Therefore, I kindly request you to grant permission and arrange an excursion to Sundarbans for 3 days. It will be very educational and memorable for us.

I shall be highly grateful to you.

Thanking you.

Yours faithfully,

Amit Das

World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and awareness in our school Ramakrishna Vidyapith, Asansol on 5th June 2026.

The programme started at 9 a.m. in the school ground. The Headmaster was the chief of the programme. He inaugurated the programme by planting a neem sapling and garlanding the portrait of Mother Earth. All teachers and about 500 students participated.

On this occasion, students of Class IX and X gave inspiring speeches on themes “Beat Plastic Pollution” and “Save Trees, Save Life”. A short drama performed by Class VIII students showed how pollution is destroying earth. A debate competition was also held on “Man is responsible for pollution”.

After that, a colourful rally with colourful placards and slogans like “Plant Trees, Save Earth”, “Say No to Plastic” was taken out around the locality to make people aware. About 100 saplings of neem, mango and banyan were planted around school campus by students. Teachers explained about global warming, climate change and importance of 3R – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

[D] Report on “A Tiger Census in Sundarbans”

Ans:

Tiger Number Rises in Sundarbans – Tiger Census Report 2026

– By Staff Reporter, Asansol, 10th Jan 2026

Kolkata, 9th January: A great news for wildlife lovers – Tiger number has increased in Sundarbans.

A week-long tiger census was conducted in Sundarbans Tiger Reserve from 1st to 7th January 2026 by the State Forest Department with help of Wildlife Institute of India and NGOs. Modern methods like camera traps, pug mark counting and DNA analysis of scat were used in deep forest areas.

According to the latest report published yesterday by the Chief Conservator of Forest, Sundarbans, tiger number in Indian part of Sundarbans has increased from 88 in 2024 to 96 in 2026. This 9% increase is a big success.

The Chief Conservator said this increase is due to strict protection, less poaching, increase in prey animals like deer and wild boar, and cooperation of local villagers. Mangrove protection and less human disturbance also helped.

Local people, forest workers and environmentalists are very happy. The Forest Minister said more watch towers, more forest guards and awareness camps will be set up. Experts said Sundarbans is still vulnerable to climate change and sea level rise, so more steps are needed to save this World Heritage Site and our National Animal.

Group C:

[E] Write a precis of the following passage (add title):

Original: Forest is very important for us. It gives us oxygen, fruits, wood, shelter to animals… But man is destroying forest… We must save forest…

Ans: Precis:

Title: Importance of Forest and Need to Save It

Forest is very important and valuable for man and nature. It gives us oxygen, fruits, wood, medicines and shelter to wild animals. It brings rainfall, prevents soil erosion and floods, and maintains ecological balance of earth. It is called lungs of earth.

But man is destroying forest for greed – for houses, furniture, factories and cultivation. This deforestation is causing serious problems like global warming, less rainfall, drought and extinction of wildlife.

So we must save forest to save life. We should plant more trees, stop deforestation, make strict laws and make people aware. If we save forest, forest will save us.

10. Story Writing / Paragraph (10)

[A] Story – Two friends and a bear

Ans:

Two Friends and a Bear – True Friend in Need

Once upon a time there lived two friends in a village. They were very close and promised to help each other in danger. One day they decided to go to a fair in another village. They had to pass through a dense forest.

While they were passing through the forest, suddenly they heard a roar and saw a big bear coming towards them. Both were very afraid. One of the friends knew how to climb tree. He quickly climbed up a nearby tall tree and hid among branches. He did not help his friend.

The other friend did not know how to climb. He was alone and helpless. But he was intelligent. He had heard that bears do not touch dead bodies. So he immediately lay down on the ground, held his breath, closed his eyes and pretended to be dead.

The bear came near, sniffed his face, ears and chest. The man held his breath tightly. The bear thought him dead and went away into forest.

After the bear left, the friend on the tree came down with a smile and asked jokingly, “What did the bear whisper in your ear?”

The wise friend replied angrily, “The bear told me not to trust a false friend who leaves his friend in danger to save himself.”

He broke friendship with him and went away alone. The selfish friend felt ashamed.

Moral: A friend in need is a friend indeed. / We should not trust false friends / True friend never leaves in danger.

OR

[B] Paragraph on “Save Forests” (120 words)

Ans:

Save Forests – Save Life

Forests are called lungs of earth and are one of the greatest gifts of nature. They are immensely valuable for us. Forests give us oxygen to breathe, fruits, wood, medicines, timber and shelter to countless wild animals and birds. They bring rainfall, prevent soil erosion, floods and drought, and maintain ecological balance and cool climate. They also protect us from global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide.

But man is cutting down trees recklessly for houses, furniture, factories and cultivation due to greed and population growth. This deforestation is causing serious problems – global warming, less rainfall, rising pollution and extinction of tigers, elephants and many species.

If forests are destroyed, life on earth will end. So we must save forests urgently. We should plant more trees, stop deforestation, use paper and wood wisely, and make people aware through Van Mahotsav and awareness camps. Government has made laws like Forest Conservation Act. Students can plant trees in school and home. Let us all take pledge – Save Forests, Save Life, Save Earth.
