[A] Letter to your friend describing life of Netaji.
Ans:
Asansol, 05.09.2026
My dear Bappa,
I hope you are well. I am also well here. In your last letter you wanted to know about my favourite hero. Today I want to tell you about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who is my favourite hero and ideal since childhood.
Netaji was born on 23rd January 1897 at Cuttack in Odisha in a respectable family. His father Janakinath Bose was a lawyer. From childhood he was brave, meritorious and patriotic. He passed Matriculation and I.A. with credit and went to England and passed the prestigious ICS examination in 1920. But he left that high post for the service of his motherland because he loved his country more than comfort.
He joined Indian National Congress under Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das but his ideology was more revolutionary. He was elected Congress President twice but due to difference with Gandhiji, he formed Forward Bloc. The British put him under house arrest. But he escaped in disguise in 1941 and went to Germany and then to Japan.
There he formed Azad Hind Fauj or Indian National Army with Indian soldiers and gave the immortal slogans “Tum Mujhe Khoon Do, Main Tumhe Azadi Dunga” and “Jai Hind” and “Delhi Chalo”. He fought bravely against British in Burma front. It is said he died mysteriously in a plane crash in 1945 in Taiwan, but many believe he did not die. He is immortal in our hearts.
His bravery, sacrifice, leadership and selfless patriotism inspire me greatly. I want to be like him.
What do you think about him? Write to me.
Your loving friend, Amit

10. Story Writing / Paragraph (10)
[A] Story – Bundle of Sticks – Unity is Strength
Ans:
Bundle of Sticks – Unity is Strength
Once there was an old farmer in a village near Asansol. He had four sons. They were strong and hardworking but they always quarrelled with each other. They never lived in peace. The old farmer was very worried and sad about their disunity. He tried to advise them many times but they did not listen.
One day the farmer fell seriously ill and thought he would die soon. He wanted to teach his sons a lesson for the last time. He called his sons to his bedside and told them to bring a bundle of sticks. The sons brought a bundle of ten sticks tied together.
The old farmer then asked his eldest son to break the bundle. The eldest son tried with full strength but could not break it. Then second, third and fourth sons tried one by one but all failed. The bundle remained unbroken.
Then the farmer untied the bundle and gave one single stick to each son and asked them to break it. This time they broke the sticks very easily with one hand.
Then the wise farmer said, “My dear sons, you are like these sticks. If you stay united like the bundle, no enemy can harm you, you will be strong. But if you quarrel and remain separate like single sticks, anyone can break you and destroy you.”
The four sons understood the deep meaning of this lesson. They promised their father that they would never quarrel and live unitedly. After that they lived happily together with unity and became rich.
Moral: Unity is Strength / United we stand, divided we fall.
