[A] Letter to your friend describing Durga Puja celebration in your town Asansol.
Ans:
Asansol, 05.09.2026
My dear Rupam,
I hope you are well by the grace of God. I am well here too. Durga Puja has just ended and I cannot wait to share with you how grandly it was celebrated in our town Asansol this year.
Asansol is famous for Durga Puja. This year Puja was celebrated from 9th to 12th October 2026 with great pomp and grandeur. Big and beautiful pandals were made at Court More, Hutton Road, Mohishila, Burnpur and Ushagram. Each pandal had different theme – one was made like Chhattisgarh’s ancient temple, another was Chandrayaan-3 theme with moon and rockets, which was very attractive. The lighting decoration was amazing and entire town looked like a bride.
People wore colourful new clothes and visited pandals with family and friends till late night. The sound of dhak, dhunuchi dance, smell of incense and bhog on Ashtami created a heavenly atmosphere. Huge crowd was there but police arrangement with CCTV and volunteers managed well. Stalls of phuchka, biriyani and sweets were everywhere.
I enjoyed a lot with my family. We did pandal hopping for three nights and had great fun and feast.
You must come to Asansol next Puja with your family. I will show you all famous pandals. You will love it.
Convey my regards to your parents.

[B] Letter to your father requesting money to buy new clothes for Durga Puja.
Ans:
To My Dear Father,
Sadar Pranam,
I hope you are well by the grace of God. I am well here in hostel and studying well for Test Examination.
Father, as you know Durga Puja, the biggest festival of Bengal, is coming after 15 days. It will start from 9th October. Everyone is buying new clothes. I am very excited.
But I have a small problem. My old clothes have become small and torn. I wore them last year also. I feel shy to go to pandals with friends in old clothes. So I need some new clothes for Puja.
I need one good shirt, one pant and one pair of shoes for Puja. I went to market with friends and enquired price. It will cost about Rs. 3000 in total. My hostel friends are also buying.
So I kindly request you to send me Rs. 3000 soon through UPI or bank so I can buy clothes before rush and high price. Please don’t worry, I am studying well and will get good marks in Madhyamik.
Convey my pranam to mother and love to sister.

Grand Durga Puja Celebration in Asansol – By Amit Das, Student Reporter, Asansol, 12th Oct 2026
Asansol, 11th October 2026: Durga Puja, the biggest festival of West Bengal, was celebrated with great pomp, joy and enthusiasm in Asansol from 9th to 12th October 2026.
This year Puja celebration was grander than previous years. Main pandals at Court More, Hutton Road, Mohishila Colony, Burnpur and Ushagram attracted lakhs of visitors. Each pandal was made with different theme and wonderful art work. Court More pandal was made like Chhattisgarh’s famous Mahamaya Temple and Hutton Road pandal was based on Chandrayaan-3 moon mission theme with rocket models, which was very attractive. Beautiful lighting, chandeliers and decoration made Asansol look like City of Joy.
Lakhs of people wearing new colourful clothes visited pandals with family till late night. Sound of dhak, dhunuchi dance, conch shell and chanting created festive mood. On Ashtami, large number of devotees took bhog and anjali.
Police arrangement was excellent with CCTV, barricades, women police and volunteers to control huge crowd and traffic. No untoward incident occurred. Cultural programmes – dance, songs, recitation were held every evening in major pandals.
On Dashami, on 12th October, idols were immersed in a colourful procession to Damodar river with dance and drums. The festival brought joy, unity and business to all and showed victory of good over evil.

How I Spent My Durga Puja Vacation – Full of Joy – By Amit Das, Class X, Asansol, 20th Oct 2026
This year I spent my Durga Puja vacation from 9th to 15th October 2026 very happily with family and friends and it was full of joy, food and festivity.
On Sashthi, I helped parents in decorating house and shopping. On Saptami, we visited local famous pandals in Asansol – Court More, Hutton Road and Mohishila with my cousins. The Chandrayaan theme pandal was my favourite. We enjoyed phuchka, egg roll and took many photos.
On Ashtami, the most special day, I went to Kolkata with my family by train to see famous big pandals. We saw Sreebhumi Sporting Club pandal made like Tirupati Temple, Kumartuli Park and College Square. Though it was hugely crowded, the art work, lighting and idols were breathtaking. Kolkata Puja has got UNESCO Heritage tag, so it was worth seeing. We took Anjali and ate bhog at a pandal.
On Navami, we had a grand feast at home – biriyani, mutton, sweets and watched new Bengali movies on TV. On Dashami, we did Bijoya pranam to elders, took blessings and visited relatives. My father gave me new clothes as gift.
On Ekadashi and Dwadashi I completed my holiday homework and met friends to share Puja experiences. The vacation was truly memorable, joyful and refreshing and made me realize value of family and festival.

10. Story Writing / Paragraph (10)
[A] Story – Fox and Grapes
Ans:
The Fox and the Grapes – Grapes are Sour
Once upon a time, on a hot summer afternoon, a cunning and hungry fox was roaming here and there in search of food in a forest and village area. It had not eaten anything since morning and was very hungry and tired.
At last it came to a beautiful garden at the edge of village. Inside the garden, it saw a vine with ripe, juicy and black grapes hanging high up from the branch. The grapes looked very delicious. Seeing them, mouth of the fox watered and it became eager to eat them.
The grapes were hanging quite high. The fox jumped high to reach them but could not reach. It tried again with more force, jumped higher but failed. It tried again and again for many times, ran back and jumped but every time it failed. It became very tired, exhausted and hopeless.
At last being unable to reach the grapes, the fox became angry and frustrated. To hide its failure, it looked at the grapes with hate and said, “Those grapes are sour and rotten. I don’t want to eat sour grapes. They will spoil my teeth.” Saying this, it walked away proudly with head high.
But in truth, the grapes were very sweet. The fox blamed grapes because it could not get them.
Moral: Grapes are sour / People despise what they cannot get / It is easy to despise what you cannot get.
